Some products show up everywhere: subway ads, Instagram, celeb endorsements. With this series, we’re testing such products to conclude one thing: Does it live up to the hype?

Fur Oil has become a game-changer in beauty for targeting a long-forgotten part of our bodies: pubic hair. Instead of promoting hair removal, the brand praises proper care and maintenance of our bodies’ natural pubic hair growth via their rich, luxurious oil that’s meant to soften and nourish your hair “down there.”

We have haircare and skincare routines, but what about pube-care? Whether you’re fully waxed, trimmed, or au naturale with your pubic hair, you understand the hairy situations that come with maintaining your nether regions: ingrown hairs, itchiness, and a brittle feel, just to name a few.

So, if you haven’t already, it’s time to give your pubes some TLC!

No, we’re not talking about Kourtney Kardashian’s old-school mayonnaise trick — but don’t yuck someone else’s yum, guys. We’re talking about the cult-favorite Fur Oil, a soothing hair oil that’s made specifically for your pubic area in mind, but can also be used on any area of your body that sprouts hair (eyebrows, armpits, legs, you name it!).

This chartreuse-toned oil is filled with nourishing, botanically derived ingredients to benefit your hair and skin, like tea tree, jojoba, and grape seed oils. Plus, the bottle is so gorgeous that you’ll want it to be seen amongst the rest of your vials of beauty supplies. It’s no wonder why this oil has received glowing reviews from a bunch of major publications.

When I say I have a lot of hair, I mean I have a lot of hair. No, not just on my head — there is not an inch of my body that doesn’t grow thick patches of wooly hair. Usually, I break out my razor at least once a week to tame the furriest areas of my body (pits, pubes, and legs) in order to not transform into an Ewok, but since we’re in quarantine, I decided to break up with my hair-removal devices for good.

It’s been freeing to not feel any shame about my hairy body or to fall prey to the societal stigma that women should be attractive hairless dolphins. However, growing out my body hair has come with a few issues. The main problems I’ve encountered are painful ingrowns — and surprisingly brittle pubic hair. Yep, you read that right: My pubes are so brittle that they feel nearly identical to steel wool, and that only makes itchy areas even itchier.

So, in my never-ending endeavor to have the most luxurious bush in all of Manhattan, I decided to test out the legendary Fur Oil. Fur became an immediate hit once they debuted with their signature oil back in 2017, and the female-fronted brand has grown a major following of people who want better pubes (even Emma Watson has noted that she’s an unapologetic fan of the brand). This content is imported from Instagram. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

But before I dive into my review, I can’t beat around the bush (pun intended): Feminine hygiene products sometimes do have a bad reputation for being unnecessary and causing more harm than good. Glamour notes that pubic hair oil in particular can lead to irritation. Plus, they’re not compatible with condoms. So, if you have sensitive skin or allergies to botanically derived ingredients, try patch-testing on your hand before using it, and avoid using any oils before you have sex with a partner who needs a condom. Remember, luscious pubes or not, safe sex is number-one for your sexual health.

In my case, I patch-tested and I’m not having sex for a very long time (I’m a single woman in quarantine, and I refuse to put myself at risk for exposure to sickness for a rendezvous), so I fit the bill to use the Fur Oil.

Just the bottle itself is impressive: The oil comes in a gorgeous, timeless spherical glass bottle that lets you see the potent green elixir. It looks like an old-timey potion made just for your pubic hair, and I’m pretty into that.

So, it looks cool, but does it work? The first time I used the oil, I used the dropper to add three little drops into my hand, slathered it on to my wiry pubic hair and just-as-unruly armpit hair, and it felt much lighter than I expected. When you hear the word “oil,” you expect something thick and dense — like the consistency of olive oil — but this particular oil was much lighter and had a slippery veil-like feel to it. After a few minutes, it absorbed completely, and I was able to slip on my cotton underwear and roam free without any oil spots on my undies.

I’ve been using the oil every night for about 2 weeks now, and my pubes and pit hair have definitely started to feel different. They don’t feel as dry and crinkly as they once did, and they actually feel like, well, hair. Plus, my many painful ingrown hairs have started to calm down and dissipate, which is a major plus.

Many of you are A-OK with your pubes, but if you’re concerned about a rough texture and ingrown hairs then you should definitely look into investing in some Fur Oil in your near future. It’s lightweight, so you can freely use it whether you’re staying inside or trekking the outdoors without worry of it seeping through your undies and pants.

It will make a major difference to the look and feel of your mons pubis. So, in the wise words of Hilary Duff, why not take a crazy chance?
