There are a lot of cool things out there that make us wonder — do they really work? In our I Tried It series, we set out to use them in the real world and have determined that, in fact, they really do.

On Trial: HurtSkurt Hot/Cold Therapeutic Sleeve

Tester: Caitlyn Fitzpatrick, four-time knee surgery patient who ices her knee regularly

The Brief: If there were such a thing as an expert surgery patient, my resume would stand among the elite. The cartilage actually died in my knee, causing the bones to hit and crack, which ultimately resulted in me having to undergo four surgeries. Long story short, you could say that I know a thing or two about finding relief when the pain is nonstop.

Although I haven’t had a knee surgery in years, I still need to ice it fairly regularly to help with the pain. After enduring so many hours balancing those hard, square ice packs on my aching knee, I finally discovered the HurtSkurt Therapeutic Sleeve, and it works so incredibly well that I don’t think I’ll ever go back!

Launched in late 2019, the HurtSkurt is a form-fitting sleeve with gel packs inside. All you have to do is pop it in the freezer to cool it or in the microwave to heat it up, depending on the temperature sensation that would feel better to you, and then slip it on. It has a patent-pending stretch-to-fit design, so it completely covers your aching arm or leg as you wear it.This content is imported from Instagram. The HurtSkurt easily slips over my leg and onto my knee, and it stays solidly in place as I walk around. Available in three sizes (small, medium, and large), I use the medium for my knee, but this size could also fit over an arm, elbow, or calf. The small version is better for wrists and ankles, and the large size can really be used anywhere, as it covers a wide surface area.

I really like that the HurtSkurt comes in a range of fun, colorful designs, instead of your standard solids. I’m quite partial to the Island Palm print, which has a pink background with green palm tree leaves!

Even if you didn’t spend the majority of high school in a knee brace like some people (aka me), there’s no limit to who will find relief with the HurtSkurt. Whether you live with daily body aches, or you suffer the occasional pulled muscle or cramp, you’re going to want this recovery product around. I’m going to go out on a limb (see what I did there?) and say that the HurtSkurt is my new favorite accessory!

Closing Argument: Whether you get sore after a workout or due to an old injury, properly caring for it is crucial to feeling better. The HurtSkurt Hot/Cold Therapeutic Sleeve has helped me get back on my feet.
